BOOK OF JUDE – Mindful Revelations

Misogi Challenge Completed: My First Half-Marathon

I am Jude. From 5K to 10K and now, my first Half Marathon! I did it. I crossed the finish line, and in doing so, I completed my first Misogi.

There were no personal goals except survival. I wasn’t concerned with creating a personal best or where I placed compared to other people.

This was simply about me challenging myself to run farther than I ever have, and doing it.

Two short years ago I was questioning whether I would ever run again. Today, I ran 22km and did it in a post-tropical storm.

Every step I took was a reminder of how much my life has changed and how far I have come.

I have grown and evolved in ways I could never have imagined and running is a perfect example.

I ran my first 5k in 2022. One year later, I completed my first half-marathon, in the very same race.

It was certainly a test, and preparing for it presented some unique mental and physical challenges.

I have been dealing with nagging injuries and I was sick all week which limited my ability to breathe, sleep or prepare the way that I anticipated.

I also had to contend with the ceaseless chatter from my ever-present companions of resistance and self-doubt.

It was hard! But I am proud that I was able to remain committed, put in the requisite work, overcome my obstacles and complete the race.

It’s a huge personal achievement. However, it’s not so much about the distance for me, it’s more about what I am learning about myself.

I am growing and evolving. I am developing resilience. I am becoming more intentional and self-aware, and maybe most importantly, I am constantly challenging myself to Be Better.

Thank you to everyone who has offered their kind words and encouragement before, during and after the race. Your support has been invaluable.

But I promise you, this is just the beginning. Stay tuned!

I am already considering my next Misogi and what other amazing milestones I can create – and so should you. We Can Do Hard Things!
